The legos lay scattered on the floor, pieces of forgotten candy, a city half built.
A pajama clad boy with a purple towel tied around his neck and curly brown hair runs through the cemetery of legos.
"You'll never catch me!" His Mickey Mouse voice rings out.
"Wait for me!" Calls the little girl, younger than the boy, her chubby legs can barely keep up with him.
The girl's curly brown hair is pulled back with a clip that matches her pink nightgown.
Sleep still in her eyes, she crosses the room to the boy who is bent over the toys.
"We should build a city and then make my T-rex wreck it," he whispers to the girl, his brown eyes wide with excitement.
The girl nods and diligently starts stacking the legos, creating colorful, lopsided walls.
"Okay you do that and I will get the dinosaurs." He pats the girls shoulder and runs out of the room.
The beat up SUV pulls into the high school parking lot.
A boy hops out of the driver's side, sunglasses perched on his nose, dark hair swept back.
"I'm going to head to my homeroom, you good?" He asks with a deep voice.
"Yeah, I'm good." The girl nods, her voice quiet, she looks down at her sandals.
Her long brown hair curls around her face and over her backpack.
She walks around the car and starts toward the school entrance.
"Hey, be excited, it won't be that bad and I will meet you right here at three." He lifts up his sunglasses to look intently at the girl.
The girl smiles, "Okay, see you then."
He reaches out and squeezes her shoulder, "I love you lil' sis."
The afternoon sun slants across the park, lighting up the playground.
A boy sits on a park bench and stares out, a smile pulling at the edges of his mouth, his dark hair peppered with flecks of gray.
"Remember when we had that much energy." His voice is filled with wonderment.
"I remember when you had that much energy. I had trouble just keeping up with you." Laughs the girl sitting next to the boy.
Her dark hair is pulled back in a low ponytail, her hands rest on her swollen belly.
"Wait 'till you have this little one, you won't know what energy is after that." He smiles and looks out at the little girl climbing up the tall slide.
The girl absently rubs her belly, she closes her eyes, letting the sun warm her face. "If you figured it out, I think I can." She opens her eyes to smile at him.
The boy laughs and reaches out to rest his hand on her shoulder. "Yeah, you'll be fine. You'll be a great mom."
