People

As a journalism major I have had to interview all kinds of people. When I first started writing articles I was afraid to call people or walk up to them and ask questions, fearing they would be annoyed or rude. My outlook was "I don't want to bother people." Over time, however, I have learned that MOST people are not just willing to talk, but they are happy to do so. I have been lucky enough to interview people about their passions, whether it be creating delicious and healthy after-school meals for kids, running a high ropes course for people of all ages, teaching an exercise class for senior citizens, making and selling homemade beard oil or planning an aerospace and defense park in Tucson. While most of the interviews can last up to an hour or more, no one seems annoyed or bothered by my incessant questions. They answer with enthusiasm and detail. I am constantly reminded that people are kind, helpful and, most of all, interesting. Their passions and lives open my eyes to a whole new world, one which I never would have known or though about. If you ever want to learn something new or intriguing, start talking to people. Ask them about their lives, their work and what they are passionate about. Overcoming that initial fear or nervousness is worth it, I promise.
