Finding News

So, as a Journalism student, I'm always looking for different sources of news that's different than the mainstream sources on television and print.  There are so many sources these days that it's sometimes difficult to sort out quality Journalism.  Anyhow, two of my most frequented sources lately:

Vice - http://www.vice.com/en_us

Vice is very hit or miss.  Many of their random blog type posts and some of the video documentaries can be pretty inaccurate.  However, some of the good content on Vice is incredible.  "This Is What Winning Looks Like" is one of the best documentaries I've seen on the current situation in Afghanistan.  They had a good series going on Syria as well that followed hospitals within Damascus and rebel snipers, among other subjects.  All their episodes on HBO are gold too and they just uploaded the entire first season to their website for free.  Their travel section has some really strange coverage too.

Democracy Now - http://www.democracynow.org/

Democracy Now is really good with both domestic and international coverage.  They always do a fifteen minute general news cast and use the rest of the hour to bring in experts for dialogue on different issues.  They have an app that can be downloaded where their hour casts are uploaded each day.  All their coverage is always very relevant and in depth.
