Settings From Reality

Some random photos that I took of places in America that have me wanting to write:

Yellowstone:  A place of unfamiliar landscapes.  I saw colors of such vibrancy I didn't know existed in nature.  I've always wanted to write a sci-fi story based in Yellowstone.  I think if it were described accurately and well, it would seem foreign and alien.
Yosemite:  Such a dramatic place that could be used for an intense story of a hike or climb gone wrong.  The place is full of potential death.  I say that lightly, as there has been actual deaths there, and recently too.  But beside that grim point, still a good setting nonetheless.
Boone Hall Plantation near Charleston, South Carolina:  This was such an astounding place, but also one that would be perfect for a horror story.  Everything about this place can be seen as both beautiful and ominous.  It would definitely be fun to play with mood and tone here to give it a creepy feel.

Sometimes I forget of everywhere I've been when writing a story.  Instead of always making up settings from scratch, I should start creating what I've seen and experienced in my writing and then bring my imagination to the actual story that takes place there.
