Conceptualization of First Story: Pixels by Night

This is a post meant to just put down how my thoughts went about with creating my first story. I think many people are curious of how people come up with the stories that they write (I know I’m one person who is amazed at how different each persons’ story has been from the others in this class). So I thought for this week…erm… two week’s blog post, I’d at least write down how I came upon this idea I had.
Virtual reality. While there is virtual reality technology that has started coming out for the past decade, it’s still a growing and potential technology that can really change the world from entertainment purposes to medical purposes. In the media, it has been coming up in a lot of films like The Matrix and Gamer. Even overseas, there are media texts that have gone into the virtual reality almost genre of entertainment. Anime (Japanese animation) has a lot of virtual reality based series under its genre including series such as Sword Art Online and the .Hack series.
As a video game enthusiast, I enjoy the stories that you can interact with in RPGs (role playing games) such as The Legend of Zelda series (more recently for story) and the Tales of series. The idea of being able to place yourself into the video game is really exciting. Current technology only has the added peripheral view into gaming, making you feel like you’re interacting with the world or seeing it around you. However, take away the remote and place your consciousness into the world so that it’s your body that is moving through the game has always been a fascinating idea to me.
Now, this is a very cliché answer of how I came up with the story, but it is really how I came up with it. I tend to daze off during everyday life and my mind would wander into dream sequences that would be completely random and irrelevant to what I am doing at the time. So, the interesting and hardest part about writing the story is how I imagined the story. As much as I enjoy watching cartoons and anime…writing a story based on animated images in your head is very hard. I really tried to put the reader into the story in order to see what the characters were seeing; however, I may not have done as well because of the interesting viewpoint I had in imagining the story up.
So, these are the reasons how I came up with the idea. The workshop for the story is tomorrow, and I really do look forward to everyone’s feedback on the story. I believe that this is the story I’d probably want to rework as my final story. So, until then!
