In one of my psychology classes, I learned about something that is called flow. Flow is when one's mental state is completely immersed in what they are doing and all of their energy is focused on that task. This typically happens when someone is doing something they are passionate about. Some examples are surgeons, actors, athletes, writers, and pilots. It is the psychological term for when someone is in "the zone". I think watching someone in flow is incredible and inspiring. It is someone's escape and a place where nothing in the world matters besides doing what they love, at least for a while. Personally, I have experienced flow when I did theatre in high school, when I am heavily involved in my research and running participants, and while I am involved in some kind of physical fitness.
Here is quick example of Kobe Bryant explaining how it feels to be "in the zone" AKA experiencing flow. He is full of determination and for a second the world is at a standstill and the only thing that matters is the game.
