A Writing Utensil

In class today someone asked me for a "writing utensil" and I had to laugh at his wording.
"Why not a pen or pencil?" I asked.
He said, "It can be a feather and ink as long as I can write with it."

His reply and original question stuck with me. The written word encompasses our daily lives, it is pervasive. It is a part of history. Telling and writing stories is a part of life, part of society and humanity. People have striven to pass on their stories, to document and preserve. The written word works to accomplish just that.

A writing utensil can be a pen, pencil, feather and ink, a computer, typewriter, a crayon, an etch a sketch - whatever you want. As long as we are putting words to paper and expressing ourselves, our ideas, thoughts and knowledge.
